Don't forget to celebrate the season with your FBCM family! We aren't here just to add another "thing" onto your calendar. We're here to keep you grounded during a chaotic month by keeping you rooted in Jesus Christ.
Harvest Meal
Sunday, Nov. 23 @ Noon | Fellowship Hall
Come be grateful for God's blessings during this free, intergenerational feast! FBCM is providing meat, potatoes, green beans, and drinks. Bring sides and desserts to share!
Advent Boxes
Sunday, Nov. 30 - Dec. 25 | Home Discipleship Resource
Back by popular demand, Pastor Kendall has created an updated Advent Box for all FBCM families with children and/or youth. Advent Boxes can be picked up on Sunday, Nov. 30, or by appointment with Pastor Kendall during regular office hours. This year's Advent Boxes include supplies to create a "Jesse Tree" based on FBCM's key Advent reading this year: Isaiah 11:1-3. Each day your "Jesse Tree" will grow a little more as we are reminded of God's faithful coming throughout all of the Biblical story.
Hanging of the Greens Potluck & Kids Advent Party
Sunday, Nov. 30 @ Noon | Fellowship Hall & Kids Center
Happy New Year! Bring a crockpot of soup to share as we celebrate the start of a new liturgical (church) year together. We will begin with an intergenerational lunch. Following lunch, adults and teens will decorate the sanctuary Christmas trees. Children (5th grade and younger) will decorate the Kids' Center and enjoy an Advent Party.
Light Up Muncie
Thursday, Dec. 4 @ 4-8PM | Downtown Muncie
FBCM's Downtown neighbors are kicking-off the holiday season with this beloved tradition! Local businesses will have sales for your holiday shopping, vote for your favorite window displays, oooh and aaah at the Christmas Tree lighting, and even enjoy a parade! While FBCM will not be formally participating in the festivities this year, we are encouraging members to attend and organically make new friends with our neighbors while supporting our community! For a complete schedule, see the event webpage here.
FBCM's Winter Family Day Out
Saturday, Dec. 6 @ 5PM | BSU Planetarium
Everyone is invited to enjoy a free showing of "The Christmas Star." Seating is first come, first serve. As this is a very popular show, we recommend arriving no later than 4:30, when doors open, to get your seat.
Blue Christmas Service
Tuesday, Dec. 9 @ 7PM | High Street UMC Sanctuary
What if Christmas isn't "the most wonderful time of the year" for you? We see you. We feel that with you. Part of Advent is facing the dark in and around us--the things in the world that just aren't quite right. FBCM's Congregational Social Work Intern, Brandi Carden, is particularly familiar with the emotional strain that comes around the holidays. Brandi is inviting all who are grieving, frustrated, and downcast to join her in attending a "Blue Christmas" service at High Street UMC. Following the service, she will be available to get tea/coffee/hot chocolate with you as we make space for all of our feelings this holiday season. Email brandi[at]fbcmuncie[dot]org to let her know you're coming!
Advent 2 / Intergenerational Worship with Kids Handbells
Sunday, Dec. 14 | First Baptist Church Muncie
As is the tradition of our church, FBCM will have intergenerational worship on the first Sunday of the December. The Kids Handbell Choir will help lead us in worship and we will all share in The Lord's Supper together. Nursery will be available for young children 6 weeks - 3 years.
Advent 3 / Invite a Friend Sunday
Sunday, Dec. 14 | First Baptist Church Muncie
Curious about what the hype is about Advent and Christmas? We love questions!
Have a friend who could use some hope during a difficult time? We all do.
This winter Invite a Friend Sunday is designed just with you in mind!
Whether you have grown up in the church or are exploring your spirituality for the first time, we can't wait to welcome you. Together, we will celebrate some much-needed good news for our lives and the world. Small group Bible Study for all ages begins at 9:30AM, free donut fellowship is at 10:15, and worship is at 10:45. Nursery care is available for 3 years and younger. Children PreK - 5th Grade break during the sermon for Godly Play Children's Church. Greeters will be at the doors to help guide you. For more on what to expect when you visit, see our website here.
Youth Progressive Christmas Dinner
Friday, Dec. 19 @ 5PM | Locations Vary
Youth students (grades 6-12) are invited to celebrate the holiday season with our annual Christmas Progressive Dinner! A free three-course dinner at three locations! At the final location, we will have a white elephant gift exchange. The Rules: Students cannot spend money on the gift! They must find something fun from around the house and bring it wrapped. Register by Sunday, Dec. 14 on Church Center.
Advent 4 / Annual Business Meeting
Sunday, Dec. 21 @ Noon | Sanctuary
Excitement will peak as we light the fourth and final candle of the Advent Wreath. Jesus is coming soon! We will gather for our usual Sunday morning schedule. Following worship, there will be a fifteen minute break. Then all church members should return to the sanctuary for our annual business meeting. During this meeting, we will be formally voting on new CCT candidates and the 2026 Budget Proposal. See The Wednesday Weekly for more information.
Youth Programming Winter Break
Dec. 22 - Jan. 2 | First Baptist Church Muncie
FBCM youth (6th-12th grade) programs follow the Muncie Community Schools calendar. As a reminder, this means that there will be a two week break with no Tuesday YMCA Group, Wednesday evening Club Night, or special youth events. We encourage students to use this break as a time of rest and connection with their families. Please note that Sunday AM Bible Study will meet as usual alongside all other church Sunday School classes.
Christmas Eve Candlelight
Wednesday, Dec. 24 @ 7PM | FBCM Sanctuary
"Arise! Your light has come!" It simply wouldn't be Christmas without FBCM's most beloved intergenerational worship traditions! Special music, reading the Christmas story while children put the nativity together, Co-Pastors tag-preaching a message of joyful celebration, and singing Silent Night to candlelight--there's no better way to celebrate our King's birth!
Christmas Carols Celebration
Sunday, Dec. 28 | FBCM Fellowship Hall
Christmas continues for 12 days! On this fourth day of Christmas, FBCM's new Worship Director, Dr. Cynthia Smith, and Intern Caroline Koby will lead a unique, interactive, and unforgettable family celebration around round tables in the Fellowship Hall. We will sing our favorite Christmas hymns, share Christmas reflections, and have hands-on Christmas activities available.
