Overview

First Baptist Church Muncie is seeking a part-time Pianist/ Organist* to accompany our Worship Arts Pastor in Christ-centered, intergenerational worship. We’re looking for someone with a servant’s heart, musical ability, and a desire to guide the church in meaningful and Spirit-led worship that honors both tradition and innovation.

We currently enjoy a blended style of worship, drawing from both contemporary Christian music and traditional hymnody. Our ideal candidate values collaboration and is passionate about creating a worship atmosphere that draws people into God’s presence across all generations.

* Piano skills required, both instruments preferred, but not required, for application.

Reports To

• Worship Arts Pastor

Hours & Compensation

• Hours: 2–4 hours per week

• Compensation: $150 per week

• Vacation: 4 weeks 

Key Responsibilities

Pianist / Organist

• Provide piano and/or organ music for weekly worship services (including prelude, hymns, offertory, communion, postlude, and special music as needed).

• Church has a 22-Rank Rodgers Pipe Organ

• Accompany the congregation, soloists, and/or choir during worship.

• Attend and provide music for rehearsals or special services (funerals, weddings, holiday services) as agreed upon and compensated separately if outside normal hours.

• Coordinate with the Co-Pastors and Worship Arts Pastor to select appropriate music.

• Maintain the church’s piano and organ areas in an orderly manner and report any maintenance needs.

Qualifications & Expectations

• Proficiency in piano and/or organ, with ability to play hymns and worship music in a church setting.

• Familiarity with American Baptist worship traditions and hymnody (preferred).

• Ability to collaborate effectively with the Pastor, Worship Team, and other musicians.

• Reliability and punctuality for scheduled services and rehearsals.
